LC Smith A2, 30″ Sir Joseph Whitworth steel barrels choked full and full (.040/.040), 2-3/4″ chambers.  Double triggers, auto ejectors and special order 3 position safety.  The A2 was the highest grade offered by LC Smith at the time this example was completed May 27, 1907.  The side lock action engraved in the “Second Style” with a combination of bouquet and scroll with vignettes of pointing dogs and game birds.  Rich case colors remain on the lock plates and the deep sculpted fences.  Barrels engraved “Sir Joseph Whitworth pressed fluid steel” and “Made to order by the Hunter Arms Corp Fulton N.Y.”.  Trigger guard bears “J Barnett”‘ in gold.  Splinter for end, the semi pistol grip Prince of Wales stock of well figured French walnut shows black figure and gold fiddleback against a warm dark reddish background.  Fleur di Lis and finest checkering surrounded by scalloped borders complete the details of this finest grade from LC Smith.  Measurements are 1-5/8″ comb, 2-1/2″ heel, 13-5/8” over a leather faced pad.  Weight 7 lbs., 10 oz.  An icon of sporting guns, this A2 is a fine example of the top of the tree High Grade American doubles.
