Magnificent Pair J. Purdey Bar-in-Wood hammer guns, 28″ barrels choked full/full  (.035/.035) and IC/mod (.009/.022),  2-1/2″ nitro proofed chambers.

Just an unbelievable Pair of of Best Quality Victorian Era Hammer Guns having a no expense spared renovation to new condition.  Original barrels have been invisibly sleeved to accommodate modern shooting requirements.

Built in the early days of breechloading shotguns Purdey’s prestige was already known around the world.  This pair is an example of the style and artistry that is associated with the term “Best Guns.”

The actions are fully engraved with the finest acanthus scroll that carries on across the knuckle. Purdey name in gold on the locks and the trigger plate are a wonderful contrast to the fabulous deep browns and blues of the rich case colors.  Delicate floral fronds in gold on the hammers complete the visual elegance.  Consecutive numbers in gold and numerals I and II on the top levers.   All the lustrous blue and wood finishes are perfect.  This fine pair is true gun making jewelry.

Beautifully stocked in highly figured French walnut of deep amber color and boldly black figured throughout. Dimensions measure 1-1/2″ comb, 2″ heel, 14-3/8″ LOP to checkered butts.
